It makes loans from £15,000 to £100,000 to
community and voluntary sector clients in the South West area, and
already more than a dozen clients (with projects varying from childcare
to cyber cafes, and from community organic outlets to training in
building refurbishment for drug rehabilitees), have had discussions
with LIF’s loan managers.
CLFSW has made loans to:
- CDS
Bristol to help them expand their work with drug rehabilitees
in the Southmeads estate
- CarnBrea
Recreation Centre where a substantial asset has been successfully
transferred from the local authority to community ownership.
CLFSW follows the launch in November 1998 of the Community
Loan Fund for Merseyside,
which had joint funding from the ERDF in Brussels, and was followed
by Community Loan Funds for the North West, the North East, and
Yorkshire. In each of these cases, LIF works closely with
the Bank of England, the Local Government Office and Business in
the Community to ensure that it is able to qualify for appropriate
public sector funding from the EU.
